The SafeSitter Essentials course at Ancient City Education and Training in St. Augustine is specially designed for pre-teens and teens who want to learn the fundamentals of safe and responsible babysitting. This engaging, hands-on course covers everything from infant and childcare basics to how to respond confidently in an emergency.
Taught by experienced medical professionals, this class provides practical knowledge, life-saving skills, and essential safety tips—perfect for young caregivers who want to build trust with the families they serve. Students learn safety skills, childcare skills, first aid & rescue skills, and life & business skills. The instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises.
Note: This course is not a CPR certification course.
Taught by certified Safe Sitter® Instructors. Safe Sitter® is designed to prepare students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.
Price includes a booklet, drawstring Safe Sitter bag with flashlight, notepad, and more. Parental permission is required to enroll. All materials are age-appropriate and instructor-led. Students must bring lunch.

Certified Safe Sitter® Instructors guide students through a fun, interactive day of games and role-playing exercises covering core babysitting responsibilities. The curriculum includes infant feeding, diapering, and bedtime routines; first aid for cuts, burns, and allergic reactions; handling unsafe situations and stranger danger; child and infant CPR and choking response; and practical guidance on communicating with parents to build a babysitting business.
This class is tailored for pre-teens and teens (recommended ages 11–16 or grades 6–8) who plan to babysit, watch younger siblings, or volunteer with children. Parental permission is required to enroll.
The course costs $99 and lasts 5.5 to 6 hours at our St. Augustine location. Class sizes are capped at 8 students per instructor to ensure dedicated attention. Tuition includes an official Safe Sitter® booklet, notepad, flashlight, and a drawstring bag. Students must bring their own packed lunch for the session.
No, this course is not a formal CPR certification program. While students practice essential child/infant CPR and choking response techniques, successful graduates earn a Babysitter Essentials Certificate of Completion.
